driver’s license points
The project idea is to analyze “the emotional and cognitive risk attitudes,” sums up Carlos Hugo Cried del Valle, a professor at the School of Psychology at the University of Salamanca and lead author of the research. The study will focus on youth because surveys of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) indicate that the group comprising between 18 and 23 years or so, is the one with higher risk attitudes.
In addition, with this data the researchers hope to develop an intervention program among the drivers attending driving school to retrieve the driver’s license points, lost for committing violations.
This same research group published an earlier study that linked certain thoughts about the vision of reality with emotions, showing that both aspects were linked to the attitudes and behaviors. The aim of this new project, which will run throughout 2011, is to apply this knowledge to road safety.
“We look to individuals who attend classes at the driving school to recover points to assess their cognitive and emotional to see how they explain risk attitudes have had,” said the expert. Thus, future interventions may “consider these thoughts, anticipations and beliefs that could be taken into account in the retraining courses.”
